The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is preparing to bring back one of its most beloved characters, as Tom Holland has officially confirmed that Spider-Man 4 is happening.
Story Summary:
- Tom Holland confirms that Spider-Man 4 will begin filming in summer 2025, fuelling excitement for fans.
- Meanwhile, Venom: The Last Dance is projected to earn $65 million domestically during its opening weekend.
- South African fans can catch the Venom movie in cinemas on Thursday, 25 October 2024.
Filming for ‘Spider-Man 4’ movie starts in early 2025
During his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Holland shared,
“Next summer we start shooting. Everything’s good to go. We’re nearly there. It’s super exciting; I can’t wait.”
This marks the first time Holland has given solid confirmation of the movie, despite rumours swirling around for months.
While plot details remain tightly under wraps, fans are eagerly awaiting to see where Peter Parker’s journey heads next after the gut-wrenching conclusion of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
As fans will remember, the film ended with Parker making the ultimate sacrifice to fix the multiverse — wiping himself from the memories of his closest friends and loved ones, including MJ and Ned.
Holland has hinted at his excitement over the script and even expressed a desire to bring Miles Morales, the fan-favourite protagonist of Into the Spider-Verse, into the MCU.
Holland shared:
“I’d love to do for a young kid what [Robert Downey Jr] did for me.”
With filming set to begin in mid-2025, fans are already speculating about whether Spider-Man 4 will feature a more grounded, personal adventure for Peter Parker, reminiscent of Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man days.
Whatever the case, the upcoming movie is shaping up to be a highly anticipated continuation of the Spider-Man saga.
‘Venom’ box office projections are in: Here’s what we know
Meanwhile, the Venom franchise, which ties into the Spider-Man universe, is also making waves.
The third instalment, Venom: The Last Dance, is set to hit 4,125 theatres across North America and is aiming for a $65 million box office debut, according to Variety.
Though lower than the openings of its predecessors — $80 million for Venom (2018) and $90 million for Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) — the movie is expected to earn an additional $85 million internationally, bringing its total global debut to a respectable $150 million.
Directed by Kelly Marcel, the film continues to follow Eddie Brock (Tom Hardy) and his alien symbiote, Venom, in their chaotic adventures.
Despite being part of Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, Venom’s connection to Spider-Man was teased in the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
This leaves fans wondering if Spider-Man 4 and future Venom movies might further explore that connection.
With a production budget of $120 million, Venom: The Last Dance will need to perform well to make a significant impact, but early reviews have praised its high-octane action and emotional finale, which could drive ticket sales in the coming weeks.
For South African fans, the wait is almost over. Venom: The Last Dance will premiere on Thursday, 25 October 2024, and will be available in Ster-Kinekor and NuMetro theatres.
You can catch the movie in 3D, with tickets priced between R185 and R210.
