Netflix has finally dropped the official Stranger Things trailer for the show’s fifth and final season, giving fans a dramatic first look at the closing chapter of one of the platform’s biggest hits.

The trailer teases an emotional and action-packed ending to the long-running supernatural series, which first premiered in 2016.

The new trailer opens with chilling scenes of Hawkins, Indiana — now in ruins after the opening of the Rifts. The voice of Vecna, the show’s main villain, echoes as familiar faces prepare for the ultimate showdown.

Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown) is seen struggling to regain control of her powers as the government intensifies its search for her, forcing her into hiding once again.

Set in the fall of 1987, the final season’s synopsis reads:

“Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal — find and kill Vecna.

But he has vanished — his whereabouts and plans unknown. Complicating their mission, the government has placed the town under military quarantine and intensified its hunt for Eleven.”

The Stranger Things season finale will be released across three premiere dates: Volume 1 arrives on 26 November (four episodes), Volume 2 drops on Christmas Day (three episodes), and the series finale lands on New Year’s Eve.

Each volume will go live at 17:00 PT (03:00 SAST the next morning).

That means South African viewers can stream Volume 1 on 27 November 2025, followed by Volume 2 on 26 December 2025, and the final episode on New Year’s Day 2026, all at 03:00 SAST.

Created by the Duffer Brothers, the show is produced by Upside Down Pictures and 21 Laps Entertainment, with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen returning as executive producers alongside the Duffers.

The cast includes many of the original stars who helped make Stranger Things a global phenomenon.

Winona Ryder returns as Joyce Byers, David Harbour as Jim Hopper, Millie Bobby Brown as Eleven, Finn Wolfhard as Mike Wheeler, Gaten Matarazzo as Dustin Henderson, Caleb McLaughlin as Lucas Sinclair, Noah Schnapp as Will Byers, and Sadie Sink as Max Mayfield.

Supporting cast members Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, and Priah Ferguson also reprise their roles, with Jamie Campbell Bower returning as Vecna.

New additions to the cast include veteran actress Linda Hamilton, who plays Dr. Kay — a mysterious scientist connected to the government’s secret operations — and Alex Breaux as Lt. Akers, a military officer stationed in Hawkins.

The Duffer Brothers have confirmed that Season 5 will serve as the definitive conclusion to the series.

They described the final chapter as “the most ambitious and emotional story we’ve ever told,” promising answers to long-standing mysteries about the Upside Down and the origins of Vecna.

As the trailer ends, Eleven is seen facing Vecna in what appears to be their final confrontation.

“It’s not over until I say it’s over,” Vecna’s distorted voice growls, hinting at a dark and dramatic climax for the series.

Stranger Things Season 5 will stream exclusively on Netflix.
