Gauteng police have intensified their search for a man believed to be the last person to see 27-year-old Zakithi Zasemhlungwini Ndaba alive before her body was discovered in her Sunninghill apartment on Saturday, 8 March 2025.
While authorities have not officially named the suspect, social media users were quick to identify him as Aviwe Poswa, sparking widespread outrage and calls for justice.
What police revealed about the suspect
The South African Police Service (SAPS) released a statement on Sunday confirming that they are looking for a man who can assist in their investigation.
A single image of the suspect was distributed, but no name was provided. Instead, police have urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.
“The police in Gauteng are looking for a man whom they believe can assist in the investigation after a 27-year-old woman was found allegedly murdered in Sunninghill, Johannesburg, on Saturday, 8 March 2025,” the statement read.

Authorities further stated that tips can be submitted anonymously through MySAPS, a mobile app designed for crime reporting, or by contacting Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
What happened to Zakithi?
According to initial reports, Zakithi’s mother grew suspicious when repeated phone calls to her daughter went unanswered on Friday, 7 March 2025. Concerned for her safety, she contacted the police, who then proceeded to Zakithi’s apartment in Sunninghill.
Upon arrival, police discovered Zakithi’s lifeless body with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Apartment complex security personnel later confirmed that they had also attempted to check on Zakithi after being contacted by her family. It is alleged that her boyfriend, Aviwe Poswa, fled the scene, and he has not been seen since.
While police have not explicitly stated how Aviwe is linked to Zakithi’s murder, online sources were quick to accuse him of the crime. Social media user @NomsaNdaba, a cousin of Zakithi, named him as the alleged killer, leading to an uproar on social media.
At this stage, law enforcement has not confirmed whether an arrest warrant has been issued, but the case has been classified as a priority under gender-based violence (GBV) investigations.
Zakithi leaves behind a child and grieving loved ones, as tributes continue to pour in from those who knew her.
Anyone with information on Aviwe Poswa’s whereabouts is urged to contact SAPS immediately.
