Adidas truck hijacking: Here are the latest updates

The arrests followed a police operation that led to the recovery of 85 pairs of Adidas shoes, reportedly stolen during a truck hijacking incident in Putfontein, Gauteng, in September 2024.

According to a statement from the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation Unit in Limpopo, the suspects were arrested on Friday, 18 October 2024, at 12:00, during a raid at a wholesale supermarket in Musina.

The operation was carried out in collaboration with a logistics company from Gauteng, following intelligence regarding the hijacked truck.

The truck, which had been carrying Adidas shoes worth millions of rands, was hijacked last month.

During the search, officers found 85 pairs of shoes valued at R60,000.

When questioned, the suspects failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for how they came into possession of the goods.

The pair was promptly arrested and now face charges of possession of suspected stolen property.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, praised the success of the operation, stating:

“We commend the coordinated effort between our units and the private sector. This is an important step in cracking down on syndicates involved in hijackings and other serious crimes. We encourage investigators to pursue every lead until all suspects linked to this crime are brought to justice.”

The investigation remains ongoing, as authorities believe there could be additional suspects involved in the hijacking.
