A robbery at the Levi’s store in Retail Crossing Mall, Honeydew, Johannesburg, turned violent on Saturday.
Clothing store taken down in brazen Retail Crossing Mall robbery
According to sources close to the situation, the suspects entered the store, robbing staff and customers before making their escape.
The incident escalated when the fleeing robbers encountered a security officer from BCI Security, who was responding to an unrelated house alarm in the area.
Mistaking him for someone responding to the mall robbery, the suspects opened fire, hitting the officer in the hand.
One suspect arrested
As the suspects fled the scene, they stole the security officer’s vehicle, which was later found abandoned on the side of the road.
Meanwhile, mall security managed to apprehend one of the suspects involved in the robbery.
The injured security officer escaped to safety and received medical attention for his hand wound.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the robbery.
Retail Crossing Mall is expected to operate as normal on Sunday, despite the robbery.
