Police have arrested two more suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of a 50-year-old man outside the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court earlier this month, bringing the total number of arrests to four.
Two more suspects arrested for Wynberg court murder
The breakthrough came on Thursday morning, 24 April 2025, when detectives from the Western Cape Serious Violent Crime Unit tracked down two males, aged 23 and 34, in the southern suburbs of Cape Town. The two will appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 25 April, where they will face a charge of murder.
The latest arrests follow the brazen attack that took place on Monday, 8 April 2025, on Church Road, outside the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court. On that morning, a group of attackers emerged from a white Toyota Quantum and opened fire, fatally wounding a man who was standing near the court entrance. The victim died on the scene.

At the time, police confirmed that the murder case had been registered and that investigations were underway. Spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg said officers were looking into the possibility that the shooting was gang-related.
No further details about the suspects’ alleged gang links have been disclosed yet.
Eyewitnesses at the time described a chaotic scene as gunshots rang out, causing panic outside the courthouse. However, court operations inside the building were not affected, and proceedings continued as normal.
This incident has drawn comparisons to the murder of Christine Gumera in May 2023, who was gunned down outside the same courthouse. Gumera had been facing a murder charge and was reportedly about to testify for the state. In her case, authorities believed the attack was meant to silence her. Four suspects were arrested and charged with her killing.
Investigations into the motive and any further suspects involved in the 8 April shooting are ongoing.
