A couple was brutally gunned down in the parking lot of a housing complex on Clayfield Drive in Phoenix, KZN, during the early hours of Friday morning.
Phoenix couple suspected hit: Here’s what we know
According to a statement issued by private security firm Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), residents contacted the RUSA Phoenix Operations Centre at approximately 00:44, requesting assistance after hearing gunshots.
Upon arrival, Reaction Officers found the Phoenix SAPS already at the scene.
The body of a female was discovered in the passenger seat of a white VW Polo, and a man, believed to be her husband, was found approximately 20 metres away on a pathway.
Both victims had been shot multiple times and were pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our officers discovered the tragic scene with the Phoenix SAPS in attendance. The couple was found shot multiple times,” a RUSA spokesperson said.
What we know about the suspects
Police cordoned off the crime scene immediately after the shooting to conduct a thorough investigation.
From what we understand, ballistics evidence was recovered from the scene, including bullet casings and forensic materials from the victims and their vehicle.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing a silver VW Jetta fleeing the scene, providing crucial information to the investigation.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and police have yet to determine whether the incident was a targeted hit or related to other criminal activities.
As of now, the suspects are still at large, and the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to uncover the motive and identify those involved in this brutal crime.
