Man killed in brazen shooting near Gugulethu Mall

A man was shot and killed near Gugulethu Mall in a broad daylight attack as Cape Town reels from a series of deadly shootings.

The shooting, which took place at the corners of NY1 and NY6, is part of a troubling wave of violent incidents reported across Cape Town in the last two days.

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, officers arrived at the crime scene to find the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel declared him dead at the scene.

The motive behind the attack is unknown, and no arrests have been made.

“The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Thursday afternoon, 27 February 2025, on the corners of NY1 and NY6, Gugulethu, where a 29-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation,” police told Swisher Post

Cape Town hit by wave of deadly shootings

The Gugulethu incident is one of several fatal attacks that have rocked Cape Town between Wednesday and Thursday.

In Manenberg, a 44-year-old man was arrested after a violent altercation led to the murder of his girlfriend’s brother.

The victim, 52, was killed outside his sister’s home on Rembrandt Street after an argument turned violent.

Witnesses say the man smashed car windows and struck his sister in the face with a brick before her boyfriend retaliated, inflicting fatal head injuries.

Meanwhile, in Ottery, another devastating shooting took place around 17:40 on Thursday.

Multiple gunmen with automatic rifles opened fire on Hector Road, leaving one person dead and several others wounded.

The attack, which occurred near the Old Muslim School, has left the community on edge as police work to secure the area.

Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could help bring the perpetrators to justice.
