Eersterivier shooting: Here’s what the footage shows

Surveillance footage captured a fiery exchange between two groups of men, believed to be embroiled in a bloody turf war that’s gripped most parts of the Cape Flats in recent months.

In the footage, an unidentified male is seen dispersing a crowd of six targets with a flurry of gunfire.

The targets, possibly linked to a rival gang, stumble to safety as the gunman emptied the clip, striking at least two in point-blank range.

In a chilling display, the gunman casually turns around and skips out of frame.

From what we understand, emergency services arrived soon after the shooting and found the two suspects clinging to life.

Both victims, one with critical injuries, were rushed to a nearby hospital by Lima Charlie 1 medics.

The suspect, it’s believed, is still at large, with Cape Town police yet to respond to our request for comment on the situation.

Ironically, the shooting occurred a day after SAPS’s Anti-Gang Unit conducted a blitz operation in the community, where an unidentified male was caught with a 9mm pistol and ammunition.

“Members of Public Order Police conducted crime prevention in the Eerste River area due to the ongoing gang violence when they stopped and searched the suspect and found him in possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition in his possession. He faces charges of the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition,” spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg noted in an unrelated statement.
