According to Western Cape Serious Violent Crime detectives, the incident took place in the Better Life area of Phillippi East. Initial reports indicate that four gunmen approached a parked vehicle and opened fire on its occupants before setting the car ablaze.

Crime scene investigators remained at the site throughout the night, working to gather evidence.

The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed, but police estimate that they were between the ages of 20 and 30.

Authorities have not yet determined a clear motive for the attack, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Given the violent nature of the killings, police are looking into possible connections to gang activity or targeted assassinations, though no official link has been confirmed.

The Provincial Serious Violent Crime unit is leading the investigation, with detectives combing through forensic evidence and witness statements to track down the suspects.

Captain Andre Lotter, who is overseeing the investigation, has called on the public to assist with any information that could help identify the gunmen. 

“The motive for the incident is the subject of the police investigation that is currently underway,” the police statement read.

Law enforcement is expected to increase patrols while the search for the suspects continues.
