Atlantis mass shooting: Here’s everything we know

The victims were returning home from Silverstream Beach in three vehicles when unknown gunmen opened fire at the corner of Old Mamre and Silverstream Roads.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa, the victims, aged between 18 and 30, were fatally shot, and those injured were rushed to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

While police have yet to establish a clear motive for the shooting, detectives from the Anti-Gang Unit are actively investigating the incident. No arrests have been made so far.

Authorities have opened dockets for both murder and attempted murder as they intensify efforts to track down the suspects involved. Potelwa stated that it is expected that more details regarding the motive will be uncovered as the investigation continues.

“As the investigation unfold, it is expected that the motive for the shooting incident will be determined. No arrests have been effected yet,” the police assured.

This mass shooting follows a worrying pattern of similar incidents across South Africa.

In the Eastern Cape, there have been at least three mass shootings over the past three weeks, including the killing of five family members in Ncenjana and a violent attack in New Brighton that left five people dead.
