Western Cape dam levels increased notably during the week of 9 June 2025. Overall water storage across major and minor dams rose to 63.2%, up from 60.3% the previous week.

Western Cape dam levels on Monday, 9 June 2025

Storage in major dams improved across almost all sites:

  • Berg River Dam rose from 68.1% to 73.5%, an increase of 5.4 percentage points.
  • Theewaterskloof, the province’s largest dam, moved up from 59.1% to 62.1%.
  • Wemmershoek gained 5.6 percentage points, increasing to 58.9%.
  • Steenbras Lower and Upper Dams saw respective increases of 4.0 and 1.1 percentage points.
  • Voëlvlei Dam remained unchanged at 58.2%.

Rainfall Analysis

Rainfall figures over the reporting period contributed significantly to dam recovery. Notable totals include:

  • Newlands: 93.5 mm
  • Wemmershoek: 82.0 mm
  • Wynberg: 70.6 mm
  • Steenbras: 67.6 mm

Other areas like Theewaterskloof and Voëlvlei recorded between 30 mm and 40 mm, aiding the modest gains.

Cape Town minor dams weekly changes

Among the minor dams:

  • Hely-Hutchinson recorded a large rise from 18.3% to 37.4%.
  • De Villiers improved to 92.3%, up from 83.7%.

  • Lewis Gay exceeded full capacity, rising to 100.9%.
