Details about the incident were still trickling in when we filed this report.
However, according to sources we spoke to, things turned fiery when a group of pro-Palestine protesters who’d halted traffic on the main road to stage a picket drew ire from pro-Israel patrons dining at a popular Mexican eatery.
Fortunately, the incident did not escalate beyond a scream fest between two men.

Escalations of this nature are not an uncommon sighting in the Atlantic Seaboard, an area largely inhabited by the Jewish community in Cape Town.
In November 2023, Sea Point witnessed a chaotic pro-Palestine protest that escalated into a full-scale brawl when a pro-Palestine protester grabbed an Israeli flag from a counter-protester, igniting a series of confrontations.
Police had to use stun grenades and pepper spray to control the situation as the groups clashed verbally and physically. At one point, pro-Palestine protesters attempted to harass a pro-Israel protester in a wheelchair, further escalating the tension.
Despite the chaotic scenes, many attendees emphasised their concern for innocent lives lost on both sides of the conflict and called for peace and a resolution to the ongoing violence.
