Comic-Con Cape Town 2025 wrapped up today, Sunday 4 May, marking the end of a packed four-day celebration of pop culture, gaming, cosplay, and fan experiences.
Main highlights from Day 4
The final day was themed around Star Wars, in honour of International Star Wars Day, commonly known as “May the 4th”.
The festivities began with the Paul Roos Gymnasium Orchestra performing music from the iconic Star Wars films, bringing to life the epic scores composed by John Williams.
Throughout the day, fans took part in themed events such as “Guess the Sabre”, light sabre demonstrations, and meet-and-mingle sessions that gave them the opportunity to bond over their love for the franchise.
One of the main attractions was the spotlight session with Ian McDiarmid, known for playing Emperor Palpatine in the Star Wars saga. He spoke about his experiences and shared behind-the-scenes stories that gave fans a rare insight into the making of the beloved film series.
The cosplay competitions reached their exciting conclusion with the finals held in the afternoon.
Participants across multiple categories—ranging from beginners to masters—competed for top prizes. Judges awarded first, second, and third place in several categories, including Armour and Needlework.
The overall winner earned an automatic place in the Comic Con Africa championships taking place later this year in Johannesburg.
Gamers also had their moment in the spotlight with the final round of the Telkom VS Gaming Diski Season 8 tournament, where the winner walked away with R175,000 and major bragging rights.
There was also a high-stakes racing simulator challenge hosted by Openserve, with a R10,000 prize for the fastest lap recorded across the entire weekend.
Throughout the venue, fans enjoyed hands-on experiences like “Sabre School,” where they could learn basic lightsaber techniques. A Star Wars trivia quiz closed out the day, testing attendees’ knowledge of the galaxy far, far away.
